The aim of the course is to deepen students' analytical skills in processing spatial data from the natural sciences. The subject of the course is not the methodology and theory of spatial ecology applications, but the acquisition of practical knowledge of data processing in a freely available software (technology) environment. An important aspect of the course is to introduce students to GIS tools and capabilities that are freely available and/or open source. The course uses knowledge of ecology and landscape ecology and builds loosely on previous courses GIS I and GIS II. Basic knowledge of GIS systems is assumed. Upon completion of the course, the student should gain an overview of the data processing capabilities of open source GIS and a basic orientation to the current range and functionality of open source GIS tools.
