The aim of the course is to get the knowledge of biology and methods of protection of freshwater crustaceans and molluscs living in open waters in the Czech Republic, including practical conservation measures leading to species protection. Special attention will be paid to the practical determination between native and non-native crayfish and bivalve species living in the waters of the Czech Republic. Students will be acquainted with reproduction and migration strategies of native and non-native species of crayfish and bivalve molluscs. Attention will also be paid to management of localities, both open waters and fish ponds with respect to their protection, including the surrounding agricultural and forest management. Basic information related to legislation concerning the protection of these animals will be provide as well.
